The Battle at Fort McHenry
Standing in Fort McHenry, you can't help but remember the famous battle from long ago. You peer out toward the ocean, and you can almost see the British fleet lined up shelling the American fort. The fight raged on through the night. In the middle of the night, a flag was raised over the fort, but was it one of spangled stars or surrender? This battle inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem that later was put to music and made into the American national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner." Notice how Key asks the same question I did at the end of his first stanza.
